C’est le plus beau livre qu’il y ait (It is the most beautiful book there is).

Ernest Renan, 19th Century Religious scholar, on Luke’s gospel

The parables told by Jesus in the gospels are strange, surprising stories that challenge and confront us. They use familiar words and situations to bring our hearts and minds to the Kingdom of God – a place different, yet echoing, the world in which we live. The gospel of Luke is widely regarded as a literary masterpiece containing seventeen unique parables. These include “The Good Samaritan”, “The Prodigal Son”, “The Rich fool” and “The Lost Coin”. In this six-week course we will learn about the nature of parables and their importance to Luke’s emphasis on hope and justice for outcasts and victims of oppression. Jesus’ parables captivate and challenge us to live and see the world as if we are in the Kingdom of God. Join us as we journey through some of the most compelling stories in human history.
